About the Research Centre in AIMS – Tanzania
The Research Centre in AIMS – Tanzania was established in January 2018 following the appointment of the German Research Chair in ‘Mathematics and its Application’. The current research interests of the Centre lie in the field of Partial Differential Equations and Calculus of Variations. More specifically, the topics of interest arise in meteorology and in the dynamics of fluid. Researchers at the Centre are also interested in the study of the stationary state in the theory of Mean Field Games.
The Research Centre seeks to: strengthen university education in mathematics and research in Africa; promote networking between AIMS Tanzania, other AIMS Centres of Excellence in Africa, institutions in Tanzania, institutions in Africa, German universities and other institutions outside Germany.
The Centre also seeks to establish active collaborations with industries and government institutions, especially in areas where expertise at the AIMS – Centre can be socio-economically beneficial to the society.
The Research Centre will routinely organize and host scientific events (conferences, workshops, seminars, public lectures etc.); host visiting research fellows from all over the world, train research MSc, PhD students and postdoctoral fellows; undertake research visits and participant in scientific events inside and outside Tanzania. The upcoming scientific event is the workshop which will be held from 1st to 5th October, 2018 in Dar es Salaam with partnership with University of Dar es Salaam, Department of Mathematics.
